Donate food and/or time to help those in need: the elderly, the immigrants. At mealtimes, add to your table grace a prayer for your access to healthy food.
When Jesus said "the poor will be with you always" did he mean we should be complacent to their existence?
Consider what you can do to help the poor - one person at a time, but also consider how you can address systemic problems which give rise to this persistent situation.

Dear God, may the Laudato Sí Advent Calendar keep me aware, day-by-day during this special season and long into the future, that there is nobility in the duty to care for creation through little daily actions. Amen.
