Refugee Assistance Ministry 8/31/2023

THANKS:
Our Refugee Assistance Group continues to pray for our adopted Afghan family who moved to Muncie, Indiana in August.

Thanks to all the parishioners who donated both cash and winter clothing for refugees, migrants, and the unhoused. We received 189 coats, jackets, sweaters, and sweatshirts, along with caps, scarves, and gloves too numerous to count and items off the Target list. The cash has gone toward meals at the shelters and police stations and will continue to be used for the refugees.

Refugee Assistance Progress Report

Thanks Update 12/29/2023

Thanks to parishioners who so generously donated over the last several months: 189 coats, jackets, sweaters and sweatshirts; too numerous to count caps, scarves and gloves; miscellaneous items like the air mattresses, blankets, phones and sim cards; plus a significant amount of cash that went toward meals and will continue to be used for the refugees.

For example, today there were five coats, a sweater, a few knit caps and a pair of gloves received as donations to distribute. We took them to the migrant shelter on Elston Ave. A group of men outside the building in the cold drizzle opened the bag and immediately put on the coats. No better THANKS than that!

We have parishioners who visit these tent encampments frequently, offering support and determining needs.   If you would like to join our efforts, contact Peggy Brown at pegita@aol.com.

Winter is coming: Hats and Coats, Please

We would like to ask for your help keeping these families warm and dry this winter.

We will work with the national non-profit One Warm Coat, an organization that provides free coats to adults and children in need. They are working with the city to provide 18,000 coats for migrants this winter, and need coats in every size from infant to men’s 4XL. Coats should be clean and new or gently worn, and they should not have stains, holes or broken zippers, according to the group’s website.

Please scour your closets and see if you can’t find a coat or two to donate.

  • Knit hats and gloves: There will be a box in the front of church accepting your contributions through November.
  • Coats: may be placed in a box in the old Baptismal Chapel (walk through the church and down the steps at the front right)
