Helping A Refugee Family 4/10/2023

Here are images of some of our adopted refugee family when they enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at the World Refugee Day picnic at Foster Ave. Park on June 24 thanks to our drivers and volunteers.

The event was hosted by several organizations including Exodus World Services and the Lyons Club who provided quite a lunch and dessert buffet. There were soccer games, kids games, music and dance performances, group dances. Click on any image for a larger version.

Thanks to the generous response of our parishioners, Assumption Parish has “adopted” a large, loving family who fled Afghanistan after the US military left the country. Mom, Dad and ten children, ages 2 to 16, have found a safe home in Chicago with significant help from our parish.

Their journey has been long and difficult but we are happy that Catholic Charities found them a three bedroom apartment on Chicago’s north side which our parish has furnished and helps with the rental fees.

More volunteer help needed:

Our Refugee Assistance Ministry is looking for extra helpers over the summer to assist the ten children in our refugee family with their learning and to participate in some outings with the family. If you would like to learn more, contact Peggy Brown at pegita@gmail.com.
