Welcome to the Lector Ministry at Assumption Catholic Church! We are so thrilled that you are interested in serving the community by proclaiming the Word of God during the celebration of Mass. Lectors are an important part of the Liturgy and our goal is to ensure that all parishioners who feel called to the Lector Ministry feel confident in proclaiming His Word.
“Let the reader be aware of the office he has undertaken and make every effort and employ suitable means to acquire that increasingly warm and living love and knowledge of Scripture that will make him a more perfect disciple of the Lord”
-Pope Paul VI
17 Masses, on average, take place on a weekly basis at Assumption Catholic Church. As stewards and ministers of the Word, trained lectors study, prepare and publicly proclaim the Word of God during Mass. Lectors also introduce the Mass and welcome all who have come to worship at Assumption.
It is with study, skill and special reverence that Assumption Lectors interpret and proclaim the Word of God through the guidance of our priests, lector leadership and as prescribed by the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Currently, the Lector Ministry is comprised of about 30 trained volunteers who regularly proclaim the Holy Word of God during Mass.
The schedule of assignments for lectors is available here.
