The Order of Christian Initiation of .1 ~ Adults is for those over the age of 18 or who have never been baptized, were baptized Catholic but received little or no religious formation and for those baptized in another Christian faith and want to explore becoming Catholic. The group meets on Sunday mornings beginning in September. Those who choose to continue with the process would receive their Sacraments at the first Mass of Easter. Call Fr. Mary is a favorite subject of many styles of religious art. Join a one-hour tour at the Art Institute of Chicago of selected depictions of Mary related to the mysteries of the rosary. The tour will be led by our parishioner and art historian, Karen Barzman, on Thursday September 3 (a free entry day) beginning at 6:00pm. We had a beautiful Sunday afternoon for our Parish Picnic. Thanks to all who helped make it a fun celebration of 145 years as a faith community.

Blessed Stanley Rother, whose statue we have in our church, is the subject of a feature length documentary entitled American Martyr: the Stanley Rother Story. It will be shown at 7:00pm August 25 and August 26 in English and August 27 in Spanish at the AMC River East and other area AMC theaters.

2026 is the three hundredth anniversary of the Canonization of St. Peregrine,

the fourteenth century Servite Friar who was healed miraculously of cancer. During this Jubilee Year (from now until the Feast of St. Peregrine, May 4, 2027), a plenary indulgence may be obtained by visiting a Service church or shrine (like Assumption) spending time in Eucharistic adoration and praying the Our Father, the Creed, and invoking St. Peregrine and the Blessed Mother.

Alpha is a series of videos and guided discussions that help cradle Catholics live and share their faith in a more intentional way, help those who have become alienated from church or religion to find their way back, and help those who have no experience of faith or church address some basic questions about life. Alpha is an opportunity to ask questions and express your truth in a nonjudgmental atmosphere. The Events Committee is sponsoring the second annual Pop-Up Cocktail Party in the Parish Garden on Thursday September 10 from 5:30 to 8:00pm. Enjoy wine, cocktails, and some light bites courtesy of Gene & Georgetti.

With a few necessary exceptions, our pantry and cabinets have been purged of plastic and oher non-recyclable items. Going forward we are ordering only biodegradable plates, cups, and utensils. Sugns will be posted at all events to help improve our stweardship of the earth by recycling properly and using biodegradable products wherever possible.
