WHAT IS ALPHA?

Alpha is an evangelization tool, that began several decades ago in the Anglican Church and has been adopted and adapted by many branches of Christianity. The goal of Alpha is to help those who are marginally connected to the faith to form a relationship with Jesus and come to understand the basics of Christianity. This is accomplished through a series of videos and discussions that focus on different questions people have about faith and about life. We began Alpha at Assumption in 2019, and completed several courses before the COVID-19 shutdown. 

Although each Alpha session normally begins with a shared meal, it can also work as a virtual program, as many church communities have found. We ran a virtual Alpha during 2020, on Wednesday evenings.  We expect to continue with virtual gatherings; but, if later on it becomes possible to meet live and in person, we will certainly do so!

Although aimed at those who are not regular churchgoers, anyone seeking to become more personally engaged as a disciple of Christ can benefit from Alpha. For more information, email alpha@assumption-chgo.org.
